Just when I thought…

Published by Tina at 7:39 am under The Media

….we had finally made an important decision to not let celebrities get away with just about anything (and waste media time on such pointless stories), here we go again. As I was waiting for Sophie to cease her nightly exercise routine (which kept me from falling asleep), I was thinking how fabulous it was that Paris Hilton’s judge actually threw the book at her and sentenced her. I then wondered how long she’d actually stay in….well, driving to work this morning I learned that after only 3 days (out of a 23-day sentence), she’s free as a bird. Who knows what the details are (and who really cares) but it’s completely ridiculous. I don’t even want to waste any more of my own time writing about this topic (and the reasons why this gets under my skin), but I just had to ask: What makes her so special? When will we stop letting money buy freedom and when will people in charge grow a backbone and stick to what’s right?

It’s America’s obsession with celebrity and all things trivial and inane which brought Cindy Sheehan’s war protest to an end outside W’s ranch in Texas. Standing vigil for her dead son, hoping to remain there until the war ended, she gave up because no one cares and no one is listening. All we care about is who screwed who, who’s marrying who, who’s adopting who, who’s the next American Idol. This dumbing-down affect, I hear, is addressed in Gore’s new book — THE ASSAULT ON REASON.

    A) It sucks that Paris gets preferential treatment. B) She wouldn’t be Paris if we all just ignored her and focused on some of the more important issues facing our nation.

I had not heard she was a free-bird! I’m sure the Hilton fmily name had something to do with it. It is completely ridiculous! Why should they be treated any different.

Before we give up on the criminal justice system, she has court today and could go back. We may be having the same converstion today but let’s see what happens. Judges rarely like to look stupid and often get very mad when someone makes them look stupid.

Judges also show little tolerance for others who do stupid things and go against their orders. Chad hit the nail on the head. It wasn’t the “justice system as a whole” per se that let Paris go and simultaneously let us all down. It was the sherriff’s department. The prosecutors are up in arms, and I’m sure the judge is not pleased that she was released in spite of the the sentence that she was given. My bet is the judge tells her to suck it up and she gets thrown back in. Also, those that let her out will probably get a stern admonishment.

The “word on the street” out here this morning is that the Sherriff’s department is in trouble for not sticking to the judges orders (about her not being allowed to serve any time at home) but then again, apparently no one ever serves more than 2 days for the offenses that she’s charged with.

I actually think that her “medical condition” (aka: headache) was all pre-arranged when she checked herself in on sunday night and she was just waiting it out.

AMEN Sista! I was not shocked that she was out and then back in. Good thing us FEDS know how to keep our defendants in jail! I just wish that the media didn’t make such a big deal about it. But then again, they did the obvious and caused us to just that….talk about it even more! Enough I say! Sorry, just a little soap box material…..
